I can imagine the complexity, but I was just curious after seeing some Lionel locos are dcc, whether some how or some one could convert my challenger to DCC??

While I'm no expert, I think the Challengers are a bit too early and the boards within would not support DCC.
So conversion would be quite simple. It's the classic gut it, and install a DCC decoder scenario. A sound decoder would be optional.
Looking forward to what others say.
The boards could probably be reprogrammed for DCC, the problem is nobody has the code or is allowed to do it. It's Lionel's code that controls the Legacy boards.
So the only solution is to install DCC decoders and scrap the Lionel boards.
As far as I know, only the Y3's can be reprogrammed for DCC, BUT only when done with a scale conversion by S Scale locomotive and Supply.

Remember folks that Fred at S Scale Loco And Supply converts the Y6b to DCC. I would contact him.
I also can reprogram Y3 for DCC, as well as the later runs of the U33c. The Challenger and first run U33c do not have the necessary hardware for DCC, thus the boards would have to be replaced with a DCC decoder.
Reprogramming the U33c or Y3 does not require scale conversion.
