I would like to see what you think are the coolest photos that you have seen.  I found this one yesterday.  Here's the description that came with it.

 

March 9, 1934 When Boulder Dam folks viewed the new Union Pacifc train.  A modern steam train came to Boulder Dam during its construction.  The train was built using the "streamline" design that was popular at that time.

Yes it is, and I would have never done that, but keep in mind that the whole train, which included the 600 H.P. engine, and two coaches weighted less then one heavyweight Pullman coach, and that was one of the statistical advantages, which contributed to it's popularity.

I agree with you completely. There would be no value in a tunnel in that location.

Perhaps not all that cool, but I do have a soft spot for the Wisconsin Dells, Las Vegas of the Upper Midwest. The land were scenic wonder and monumental kitsch joyfully cohabitate.  

 

This is a H H Bennett photo dated 1857, crossing the Wisconsin, route of the Milwaukee...
