I just bought some Kato F7's for my N-scale collection and there is a diagram on the side of the box that depicts trains numbered 17 and 18 in summer of 1953. It shows this order; baggage/express, (RPO, 10-6 sleeper; these two between LA and Kansas City only), 10-6 sleeper, 4-4-2 sleeper, dome, diner, dormitory/lounge, 4-4-2 sleeper, 4-4-2 sleeper, 10-6 sleeper and sleeper/lounge/observation.

If you assume heyday = 1950-1553

It really changed a little from day to day but generally

Baggage/mail storage

RPO

Pine/Palm 10-6

Regal 4-4-2

Regal 4-4-2

Dorm/Lounge

500 series Dome/Lounge

600 series Diner

Regal 4-4-2

Regal 4-4-2

Pine/Palm 10-6

Vista Sleeper Observation

If you assume prewar, which would really have been it's hayday then

Baggage Dorm lounge

17 roomette  these were all P-S

8-2-2

4-4-2

lounge

diner

4-4-2

8-2-2

4-1 sleeper observation

Super 2 ( the first streamlined SC) was all Budd until the arrival of the 17 roomette sleeper Tuba within about 9 months of starting in 1938.  Super 3 was a mix with P-S sleepers and Budd for the remainder.

The prewar and 1950 Supers have zero cars in common.  All the prewar cars were delegated to other roles by 1950.
