I have a book KATY SOUTHWEST that has a black and white photo of MKT PA #151-C in which the engine is painted a solid color, which I assume to be red.

The photo is dated 1958, and the engine also has the simplified Katy badges, yellow with the word KATY.

I plan on modeling this engine using a Williams PA.

If I do this correct for the period   should the engine have a black top, or should it be completely red?

Anybody know?

Thanks.

They aren’t the PA’s but, in about 1965 or ‘66; Atlantic Coast Line purchased a number of former KATY E units.  These were still painted in the KATY red paint scheme.  I found a color photo of these engines in my Trackside Atlanta book and the top of the cabs was black.  I took a photo of the photo in the book and have attached it below for your reference.

Odds are the paint scheme on the PA’s would have followed that on the KATY E units.

PS:  Great guitar!  😉
