Guessing that this might have been touched on before, but a search failed.

I am looking for methods to correct flaws in existing decaling, specifically creases caused by irregularities (rivets, etc.) under the decal film. Not sure how long ago the decals on the affected boxcar were applied. Anybody have any experience in this area?

The specific problem I have is caused by a rivet. The decal has laid down fine over the rivet, but in the area just adjacent there is a crease.

Thanks,

Simon

Carefully, a pin prick and Micro Sol (stronger, more softening) or Micro Set (gentle, less softening) application with a small brush. Key is not to mess it up, let it soften and flatten. Is it on a clear portion or a printed portion? Clear being much easier to fudge.

Problem area is just at the bottom of a rivet and is printed area. Looks like a miniature mountain range extending out from the rivet base.

The key is not to make it worse by creating a huge tear in your "mountain range" which will be hard to hide. A pin hole near the base will allow the decal solution to wick in and you can lightly place some on the ridge and leave it to soften. With a solution damp brush (small Testors or eqiv.) Ever so lightly press the ridge down getting the air out. We do not want to distort or tear. It may take two attempts, haste makes waste here, know from experience.
