The first structure, on the first section of shelf layout that everything will build from...

Before I figure on scratchbuilding something I'm wondering if anyone has seen a commercially made one stall engine shed like this? Can be similar that I can modify...

I'm still learning my commercial structure sources so bear with me

Thanks for advice or direction...

My thoughts on such a plain structure is that the various kit makers would not likely be attracted to it...but that is just my impression.

It would be a simple scratch build though, and you would be forever proud of what you built verses any kit.

Pat, Is that part of the old Pennsy trackage on the Delmarva?

Good Luck

Bob

Yes, it would be interesting to know where that is....it looks, at first glance, like a

headquarters for a surviving short line.  All you need to build that is some sheets of

Evergreen or Plastruct "corrugated" siding, roofing, and square tubing for framing plus a square and a straight edge and sharp hobby knife, with some Testor's red tube cement, if they are still making that??  Or is that going with the paint?  (I better stock up)

Yes, part of old Pennsy Delmarva trackage...now the engine shed at Massey Junction of the Maryland and Delaware Railroad shortline, where the Centreville and Chestertown Lines meet. And just down the road from my residence .  I agree, it'd be an easy enough scratch build w/styrene corrugation; I also saw some "covered bridge" and close-enough misc structures that could be mod'd but this, being a centerpiece for this particular shelf section, would be REAL nice as a close-as-possible. I'm not planning on a lot of structures, using a minimalist approach, so I can spend more time on the few most rail-relevant structures that WILL fit.

Thanks guys.

I had a similar structure that I wanted for a corner of my layout and was able to contact Joe Fauty at Model Structures for Model Railroads (OGR forum member Model Structures).  He got my rough sketch and built exactly what I wanted for what I felt was a reasonable price.  While the structure you show in the photo is not an exact match for anything in his online catalog, I am sure it would be super simple for him to custom build that type of engine shed.  Looks like a lot of fun regardless of your decision.

Not sure that I'd entirely agree with that - fairly generic & not a large footprint, and thus perhaps would appeal to a broad number of customers that could place it into their layout w/o excess complication.  Could be laser cut or even a handful of flat resin castings...

Indeed.  This should serve nicely as a started scratchbuilding project.  We used to do building challenges on this section of the forum as well - would be a decent project for that type of exercise as well.

Martin, I had forgotten about those building challenges, what were they referred to as again? Seems they sort of ended when their original promoter left the forum...also forgot his name unfortunately...another age related failing of mine. I do however recall a seagull named "Marty"...
