Can a coupler from a ps2 3 volt unit be transplanted to a ps3 unit? For some reason I thought I heard that they fire differently or something to that effect, or did I just dream all this up.

For some reason I thought I heard that they fire differently or something to that effect, or did I just dream all this up. More likely, you got a detail wrong in that PS1 couplers are not compatible and must be changed out- for upgrade to PS2 or PS3.
