It's been a while since I have mentioned this project over here. I have tinkered with this project on and off most of the summer.
This is a MTH crane that follows an American 25 -30 ton prototype. I am upgrading the details and adding self propelled capability. It is totally R/C control with battery power. The crane does not function as in up/down, left/right, (the boom is static only) but it does move like a locomotive and has full sound (and lights when completed). It can pull 3 or 4 freight cars and is semi permanently coupled to a gondola that serves as it's boom tender. The tender is complete, the power and control is complete, and most of the detailing is done. About the only thing left is the boom. I want to try and make it a little more prototypically correct and less toy like. Of course paint and weathering will round everything out. My original goal was to have it finished in time for My local club meeting and contest, but with only a couple weeks to go till meeting night, it might not be worth rushing... there is always next year!?
I'm posting a couple pictures here, but a much more in depth tale can be found on my friend David Stewart's website for his home layout the Appalachian & Ohio Railroad. If you have time, you can see more here:

If you O scale 2 rail is your thing, you might want to look around at the A&O site a little more!
Here are a couple shot showing the out riggers and an overall shot of the crane cab and frame mocked up.
