A sampling of some of the not-so-standard Standard Gauge I've been messing around with lately.  Purists be warned: contains hacked, kitbashed, and just plain silly stuff.

The first few clips are of a folk-art tin tank loco I picked up from Bob Thon at the Clayton NY show last month.  It was a pull toy with wooden wheels, but the rest of it is soldered tin and wire and what-all.  When I told Bob I'd take it, he said, "You gonna put a motor in it?"  Yup.  It has "SESPE" hand-lettered on the cab.  Anybody know the significance of that?

Enjoy!

Looks good.

Directly or indirectly, you have been the inspiration behind most of this normalspur stuff.    "Not your daddy's standard gauge", indeed!

sinclair, the standard gauge Challenger is made by Bob Thon of Roberts Lines trains; he will have a table in the orange hall at York next week.

Dave (steamer), thanks for your encouragement, you always have a positive comment for my videos, it keeps me coming back with more!

The whole "Eggliner" concept kinda interests me, it's just such a foolish doodlebug.  I found a pair of Aristocraft Canadian Pacific end caps for observation cars for sale on eBay.  Glued them together, cut the bottom out, put in a Lionel G-gauge motor widened for SG, wired some LED lights.  It's pretty zippy.

A couple of the steam locos are Marklin Maxi all tinplate, made for G Scale, at 1/32 good smallish SG.  Motors on both were bad so they were selling at a fraction.  Both had to be rebuilt quite a bit to become standard gauge.  The lighter red one starting around 00:38 is kinda neat, it's an 0-4-4, with a mini-tender over the trailing truck, I think it's what they call a Forney locomotive, don't know that any exist in Standard Gauge Tinplate. (not to be confused with standard gauge trains made by Red Forney).

I suppose he doesn't have a website or email, does he?  I live out west, so getting to York isn't something I can do (Nor am I a member.).  He certainly does a fine job, it's lovely to behold.

How did you regauge those Bing cars in the first train? Did they came STDG?

A couple of them came with original Bing standard gauge trucks.  The others were Gauge 1. As you probably know, the trucks are not riveted on the car, there is a threaded stud with a small nut - so they are easy to change without altering the original.  I put on Ives standard gauge trucks, which are the closest match to Bing, and of course saved the original trucks so they can be put back on one day. Unlike some of the other bashes, these are not a permanent modification.
