Yesterday I had the great privilege of being visited by one of our members TIMW of I Love Bridges.  For a long time I have been awaiting delivery of two bridges I commissioned from him.

The idea was the replace three tracks worth of mocked up bridges with substantial stone bridges.  First came the hard part - tearing up tracks.

Tim was excellent to work with and he was so dedicated to the project that he refused to allow them to be shipped.  He drove the bridges from Michigan to Pennsylvania, which was so neat as I got to meet him in person and to work together to install them.

Below is a video of the first bridge with the trains we used to test it out.  Please excuse the moving track as we were just test fitting everything.

Here is a sneak peak of the second bridge.

Hope you like it.  Thanks, Tim.  You are the best and only person I would trust with my bridge work.

I made the big one (in the foreground) to break down into four sections of roughly 2' each, and the smaller one, over 6' in length, and all one piece, after I decided that I could not risk shipping them. Although quite durable, I could not take the risk of one of the sections being damaged, after all of the horror stories I have read about items arriving damaged.   No insurance policy could suffice, since the bridges are one-of-a kind, and no identical bridge exists.   I could not simply reach for another section to replace a damaged one, and send it to David, so I decided to bring them directly to him, and assist in the install and run some trains with him.    I, in a sense became the insurance policy that they would arrive without damage.   The other one I made in one piece, once I knew I was going there in person.   The foreground bridge weighs 7#'s per section, 28#'s total, and the rear bridge, I'm not sure, but probably half of that, at best.   It would have cost quite a bit to ship, anyway, due to their bulky size, and the distance.

David,

You have some exceptional additions to your layout. Tim, great work! Having laid my share of stone in the one to one world, I can relate to the craftsmanship and authenticity of your work in scale. I am seriously contemplating something similar to cross the pond in the back yard where I would like to do an out door layout.

Fabulous work.  If the builder hand carved the stones in those bridges, then he is without a doubt a talented artist. If he used ready made stone, then he is a highly skilled craftsman. Either way this individual really knows how to build bridges!  The effect is dramatic, realistic and artistically correct. Top notch in every respect.
