I can't find a "dummy" MTH Santa Fe F3-A Railking but I have found a the fully operational Proto 3.0 version. What is involved in remove the driving elements of this engine? Thanks

Basically, you just need to pull the motor(s). Pull the shell off. Depending upon the locomotive, probably a single screw on the bottom of the truck up into the motor. You can pull the boards if you want or just leave them alone.

Jon, I just completed removing drive/electronics from a powered unit. I started with removing all electronics, lights, etc., then just started removing screws from pickups, trucks and motor mount. Keeping track of which screws went where, everything came apart OK. I removed all drive gears from trucks (except wheels) and re-mounted motor mount only to truck, replaced pick-ups and lighting.

looking at an exploded parts view, it looks like I can just remove the motors and the power pick rollers. Do the trucks roll free without the motors installed?
