Lionel cataloged two or three CrewTalk Cabooses in the late 1990s/early 2000s. I believe they were supposed to have dialogue between the engineer and the conductor that varied depending on what the train was doing. How well do these work and are they entertaining?

They work well and are entertaining.
I agree plus they have couplers that can be opened using the remote.

Do they also have...squealing brakes...strobe light?

You control when they play. No strobe light. I do not know how many sequences they are.
There were four CrewTalk bay window cabooses issued:
6-19742 Erie - 1998
6-19749 Southern Pacific (part of a set) - 1998
6-19889 Pennsylvania - 2001
6-19890 Santa Fe - 2001
Yes, they have both squealing brakes and a rear strobe light.

On my early Erie version, the marker lights are green, with a red flasher on the rear also. With electrocouplers. The Erie has a different dialog from the other early version, Southern Pacific. The dialoged is timed with the locomotive crew talk to sound like the engineer and conductor are having a conversation. By early I mean it has the modular boards. The later version uses the railsounds light board, and Lionel had a couple of those, but don't recall if the dialog is different between the two.
If your a railroader in the real world nothing they say makes any sense at all. but on the other hand most of the conversations I hear at work might not be acceptable for all age groups. !!
