CSX 3-rail modelers forum:

I model CSX 3-rail O scale equipment. All my 3-rail engines are MTH Proto 1, 2 and 3. I like to research the prototypes and gather prototype photos of my collection of engine models. I am interested in contacting others who model CSX also. I am also interested in modeling prototype CSX facilities such as service facilities and yards, etc.

Any other forum readers modeling CSX?

Here is an intro from the CSX website:

A leader in freight rail transportation for more than 180 years, CSX’s roots date back to the early nineteenth century when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company (B&O) – the nation’s first common carrier – was chartered in 1827. Since that time, CSX has built on the foundation laid by early pioneers who had a vision to create a railroad that could safely and reliably serve the ever-increasing demands of a growing nation.

Since its founding, numerous railroads have combined through merger and consolidation to create what has become CSX.

I only model the old Seaboard Air Line, but I know there's a few folks on here that model CSX.  I only model SAL because it's cost prohibitive to try and model them all

Anyway, here's a couple of photos for you that I took a few years ago:

I have more around here, but these are the only 2 I have up on the website I use.

I may one day get into some ACL, time will tell.

Central of Georgia Railway

Construction began from Savannah as Central Railroad & Banking Company of Georgia in December 1835. Controlled by Illinois Central 1909-48, and by Frisco 1956-61. Became a subsidiary of Southern Railway on June 17, 1963, and merged into Southern Railway system on June 1, 1971. Information obtained from trains.com 6/14/2006..............Rogerw.

Note: CSX and Norfolk Southern split the assets of Conrail.

CSX acquired 42 percent of Conrail's assets, and NS received the remaining 58 percent.

Norfolk Southern received the portion of Conrail which was previously the Pennsys system (later Penn Central).

CSX Transportation was formed on July 1, 1986, as a combining and renaming of the Chessie System and Seaboard System Railroad into one entity. The originator of the Seaboard System was the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad, which previously merged Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1967, and later Louisville and Nashville Railroad, as well as several smaller subsidiaries such as the Clinchfield Railroad, Atlanta and West Point Railroad, and the Georgia Railroad (Georgia Railroad and Banking Company). On August 31, 1987, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, which had absorbed the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad on April 30 of that year, merged into CSX. The merger had been started in 1986 with the merger of Chessie System and Seaboard Coast Line Industries to form the CSX Corporation.[2]

On June 23, 1997, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern filed a joint application with the Surface Transportation Board for authority to purchase, divide and operate the assets of the 11,000-mile Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail), which had been created in 1976 by bringing together several ailing Northeastern railway systems into a government-owned corporation. On June 6, 1998, the STB approved the CSX–NS application and set August 22, 1998, as the effective date of its decision. CSX acquired 42 percent of Conrail's assets, and NS received the remaining 58 percent. As a result of the transaction, CSX's rail operations grew to include some 3,800 miles of the Conrail system (predominantly lines that had belonged to the former New York Central Railroad). CSX began operating its trains on its portion of the Conrail network on June 1, 1999. CSX now serves much of the eastern U.S., with a few routes into nearby Canadian cities.[2]

I saved this photo the last time you posted it--love what you did with the logo... sure would like to see the cat on some modern equipment.

If you read the history of the mascot (as I'd imagine most folks in this thread have), you realize what a powerful and visible brand it was, particularly during wartime.  I think a huge opportunity has been missed in abandoning it.

I'd like to see the Seaboard logo around as well--but I suppose a heart and a kitten aren't the toughest looking images for selling freight hauling services.

Good Day,

Presenting a few of my CSX Heritage color schemes that I’d like to see in O Scale.
