Harry and I wish we had more time to spend on the forum, but for now I have promised to post something on Mondays. Today is a blast from the past. Harry did tons of work for the late CO Gibson. CO use to call me on Sundays to talk about life and dreams and his past. I was always at an open house as I am a NJ Realtor. Helped to pass some of time sitting in a house...
CO would take a big piece of tarp plastic and draw the perimeter of the area he wanted Harry to fill. Mail that tarp and Harry would open it in the shop and design. CO was not always specific, except the area. I have enclosed a few photos of custom work Harry did for one project. OF course Harry can do the same for you!
The challenge was making the project so that it could be taken apart and put back together after shipping 3,000 miles. Each two stories was one course, made from hydrocal casting from RTV molds reinforced with bass and plywood. Made to stack like the tier of a wedding cake and aligned using dowels and corresponding holes so that no two courses had the exact same peg configuration. The fancy roof sign was made from brass frame soldered together with white plastic church sign letters. The base was made to override a yard throat and there was actually a switch frog located beneath the building in the tunnel. The main concourse had numerous internal and external lights with Woodland Scenic figures which were modified to represent motion. Careful study will reveal various interactions with the figures. The various signs were dry transfers transferred onto thin film decals and decal set onto dark background masked and painted onto the buildings. The structure stands 5 feet tall and is detailed as the smallest scene on an HO layout. The highway is again a serious of hydrocal castings laminated onto a wood armature. Some of man hole covers were propped open with interesting scenes. Vehicles are all lighted and transferable with small Miniatronics Connectors on each one. The whole scene is prototypically weathered so when shot outside is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.
I remember it got to CO with out a problem and shipping was $666.00.
