I'm putting this thread here because I think the 2-rail crowd will be most likely to have an answer. I'd like to have a custom number plate made for a Southern Ms-4 - the rectangular, mounted on the headlight bracket type. My guess is it would need to be etched brass. Is there anybody who does such a thing? Bob Stevenson said no, in case you were about the suggest him!

Can someone make you one on a 3D printer?JohnA
I suppose that could work. It'll be a fairly tiny part, and would need really good resolution.
Scale City Designs in Ohio.
I make flat plates and get special decals. Not sure who is doing gold decals, but that's where I would start.
Just got a set of gold SR decals from K4, so that'll be a good plan B if I can't get the real deal. To me a real number plate just really jazzes up the front end.
If you mean a metal plate with raised numbers, the solution is probably a local photo-etcher or trophy maker. OK if you have unlimited funds.
Good luck with that and let me know if you succeed. I have been trying for several years to no avail. I found one guy about 7 years ago who did a great job on my C&O j3a number boards but I have not heard from him since and I have tried several times. He was very reasonable on cost too.
No luck so far. Actually I'm surprised that seemingly nobody offers this service, but I guess there are just too few people who would pay for it.
I recall seeing an ad in one of the UK magazines (Railway Modeler?) for someone making custom nameplates. Unfortunately, I do not remember anything more about it.
