I am looking for input to see if anyone has done this ?. I recv'd my Miller Lionel Billboard & would like to mount it on the Dept. 56 Lionel Store. Is cutting a slot doable with out causing damage ?. I have a diamond cutting blade for the Dremel which says it can be used on ceramic & porcelain. Thank you in advance for your replies.

I believe the key when cutting ceramic is to let the tool to the work and not try to push hard into it to make it cut faster.  Just a little pressure to keep the cutter in contact with the ceramic is all you need.  And as for losing value... I bet reselling it WITH the sign would make its value go up!  Or you can always just use some drywall putty to seal up the hole and paint over it.

If you are looking for a way to hide/disguise the wires and want to cut the slot in the building for this reason there are other ways. One of my favorites is to hide the wires inside a black drinking straw or coffee stirrer. You can slit the straw lengthwise carefully with a razor blade to avoid having to cut the wires on the Miller sign. Some straws have the "bendy" part built in to turn corners on the building.

With the sign hot-glued or sticky-tacked to the building attach the straw to the building and paint it an appropriate color. It can look like a conduit or downspout. Send the wiring through the layout top and hook up.

No need to cut the building.
