My wife and I took a train ride yesterday on the beautiful CVSRR. It was a three hour round trip ride from Independence, Ohio to Akron, Ohio then back to Independence. The weather was perfect with blue skys and only about 82 degress, perfect day. There was a total of 13 cars in the train with a engine at each end. The majority of the railroad crew are all volunteers workers and they were very informative on the train and the scenery along the rails. There was one vista dome car which we were able to get tickets to, this was out first time riding up top in a vista dome!! The ticket prices were fantastic, the vista dome car tickets were only $25.00 each and we were served donuts & coffee, soft drinks etc. A great train ride that is virtually in my back yard. It was a very enjoyable day, we took a bunch of pictures and I figured I would share a few of them with the OGR community!!

Thanks for sharing these.  My wife and I tool one of the NKP trips last year and it was a lot more crowded.  This looks like it was a lot of fun.  I would love to try a dome care sometime and I hope I can get a deal like you did.

I also like the picture of you and your wife.  Among my favorite pictures are those that I get other people to take of us together on our trips.  Thanks again for sharing!

Looks like a great time! The CVSR is a jewel in the Cuyahoga Valley. It is a fantastically well run operation. I spend quite a bit of time in Peninsula and the valley in general and I am always glad to see so many people riding the train. They have many rides of different lengths and duration. I decided to become a donating member of the railroad this year because I want to see them continue serving the area for as long as possible. Believe it or not, ticket sales only cover a portion of the operating expenses. Donations make up the rest.

If you find yourself in the Cleveland/Akron Ohio area do yourself a favor and book a trip. Escecially if you will be in the area next month when STEAM returns to the CVSR!

The CVSR is where I keep my FRA Engineer Certification current. I'm one of the volunteer engineers on the railroad. I was just up there Tuesday evening for a rules class and test.

It is a very nice ride through a beautiful river valley. If you are a bike rider, check out the Bike Aboard deal! Only $2!

There will be steam on the CVSR in September. Go to THIS PAGE in their site and enter the word "STEAM" in the search window.

I also volunteer on the CVSR, glad to hear the positive feedback.

CVSR gets better each year, improvements are a constant.  The dome car was added to the fleet recently and is a former Rio Grande California Zephyr car, originally the "Silver Bronco."   4 years ago I discovered the CVSR dome service and was such a regular rider that a Conductor asked me to come out and volunteer.   It is a great organization and a lot of fun getting to help out on the very busy CVSR trains.

The dome is the second best view on the train,  Rich gets the best view from up front.
