I think the young guys into vinyl are just the small backlash you see  against all forms of progress. Folks wanna go live in the woods and hunt their food till they get cold or need a doctor then they return to the real world.....DaveB

I'm still looking for the intergraph depot so I can telegraph these posts in...

I'm afraid that isn't an option any more, the colllectors of years ago couldn't find any buyers/collectors for the old telegraph system and they all got trashed.

You are going to have to go back to a smokey old fire and a wet blanket, a tad slower but never obsolete.

But it's murder trying to post pictures...  Maybe semaphore...

Semaphore could be an answer, just send lots of 0's and 1's and then stitch them altogether to form the picture, great idea!

What is accurate information is that most of those scale wheel sets are still sitting in their boxes. Now, that's a fact!

Bob, are you implying that because there are tens of thousands of scale wheel sets still in SHS boxes, that people can't sell them because there isn't a ready market for them with the scale modellers?

Certainly not me :&gt  Much of my music collection is on vinyl but not from choice, it was all that was available when I bought the albums. I play them on an old Philips turntable with Rotel amps thru JBL L-100's and they sound fine but they take up a lot more room than CD's or I tunes files. One may offer an explanations for why vinyl is coming back. Correct or incorrect. Some compelling. There are a fair number of companies building turntables for those records, too. However, I cited vinyl as an example of why it might be wise to limit one's assumptions about the future. Flyer is not going to go away. An awful lot of it was made and that's a fact. And, those who enjoy Flyer and/or hi-rail are not taking away from anyone's ability to enjoy S scale. To each their own.

No. Rather, I believe that they sit in plain sight, forgotten. They are not needed by the hi-railer, who removes the car from the box which is then packed away.  There is also those of a collector mentality who are compleatists about the packaging and look for the complete contents when making purchase, even though they will never actually use the wheel sets. Kind of perverse, but true. Having the wheel sets present also makes it easier to sell the piece to a scale guy later.

So after all this folderol, it boils down to someone, somewhere having wheels they don't use lying around.

Big deal.  A tempest in a teapot.

I've got a zip-lock baggie full of SHS and AM hirail wheels and lobster-claw couplers.  They come in handy sometimes.  I've also got a baggie of scale plastic Pacific Rail Shops wheels from PRS cars I put SHS scale (or hirail) wheels on.  Leftovers are part of the territory of model railroading.

I don't think any Flyer/Hirail guys refused to buy an SHS car because there were scale wheels in the box any more than any scale guy refusing to buy an SHS car because it was outfitted with Flyer compatible wheels and couplers mounted.

I'll just miss the convenience of having the wheels I need included.

I buy what I like and if it has the wrong wheels, I'll convert it one way or the other.  My LHS called last night, my new Flyer hoppers are in.  Now that the trauma of the first run has passed, I'll do the same thing I did with my first two hoppers, discard the trucks and mount AM trucks.  Good 'nuff...

Dave, to your inquiry...the C&SF is running well.  Cash starved, but running.
The UP tore down the Carbou depot so we had to move offices next door to the 2nd floor of Skip's BBQ.
We're also looking at a proposal from D&RGW that would have them run their power over our line to Ol' Ben mine, given the higher horsepower of their equipment.
That's about it for now, thanks for asking.
