For the past several weeks I have been getting a full page alert headed by the phrase "Danger, Will Robinson" followed by a message that says the request has timed out, and to re-try. When I re-try I am always able to connect to the desired page. This message comes up when I go from a sub-forum directory page to a specific topic page. It is random across all sub-forums. The message supposedly is from socialstrata, black lettering on brown background.

I am using Firefox on Windows XP, latest service pack.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, same symptoms.  Sporadic appearance, but easily fixed.  I assumed it was a Hoopla "message" because their system just couldn't handle my request.  I simply closed that window and clicked the link again, at which time (and every time after the Danger message) I went where I wanted to go.

By the way, I use fully updated Windows 7 and Firefox browser.

Owen,

They do have the robot for messages. I would assume it's the combination of your old OS (XP) and FireFox. The handshake between your computer and the website trades info and the website doesn't like something. You really should consider getting a machine with Windows 7.

Chuck,

I don't know why you would get it. Unless Rich's beloved FireFox has issues.

To those who have responded - thank you!

The OGR forum is the only place I am having this type of issue. I am inclined to believe it is something about Hoopla/socialstrata; maybe it is a suddenly developing "hand shake" issue.

The laptop is scheduled to run a McAfee deep scan in about an hour. This is done once a week. The alerts have been going on for several weeks.

Again, thanks to all.

I've seen it too, totally normal.  (though I've not seen it with the great frequency noted, even on the old Win XP machine I use a lot).

Right now it's not a hacker, but this sort of a behavior by any site would seem to open up a door for such.  Knowing we are all accustomed to thinking it's "normal", it would be tempting for bad players to try to emulate that page, but add a malicious link as the "try again" button.

I'm sure we and OGR don't get a vote on that, but I'd much rather have the page just sit there and do nothing with a spinning circle than present me with such a page/link.  If the page is non-responsive, I'll get the hint to go back to where I came from and try again.
