"This is in response to a few posters who claim the app is bad. It works here. I think they have signal problems and won't look into the possibility that it's at their end. When issues arise, you have to have an open mind to find the problem. Blaming the app won't solve it. How can the app be to blame if it works on track #1 but not on track #2? Either bad wiring or even a TIU channel burned are possibilities. You have to troubleshoot methodically to find the issue's source."

Completely agree Joe.

I was at a trainshow last February and ran into somebody who could do nothing but complain about how terrible the WiFi app is and how he had wish it was never purchased.  I offered to go to to his home (a three hour round trip from my home) and help him figure out what was going on and to get it working to which he gladly accepted. About 30 minutes of troubleshooting, a little rewiring and re-configuring the sleep settings on his ipad, and he was running at 100% without anymore problems.  We ran trains for about another hour and I made a friend for life that day.  His problems were simple things that regardless of using a DCS system or not you'd want to correct anyway.

No! Techie that is.  & Yes, Go BILLS!!!!

I just like a good puzzle.... once in awhile!

I get many, many ideas here on this very forum from many good techs and users. I try to combine them all. The painkillers sometimes don't let me remember stuff. Sometimes, I just go down the wrong track!

I love the WiFi app. I when the layout first started out set it up with DCS. I am running all PS3 currently. I made my WiFi connection to my home router as some times I have an idea to look something up on the internet and did not want to disconnect from the layout WiFi. I have had zero problems with the WiFi working. I hate the MTH remote so never use it. I have never been good at acronyms and you need to be to navigate that remote. I have no ill will towards MTH for getting rid of it.

Now I cannot say I have been operating without any glitches but all were with other parts of the layout and not the WiFi.  I keep the MTH WiFi powered on all the time just like you do your home router as this, in my experience shortens the connection time and keeps those un-connects to a minimum.

I notice Joe using his phone to run the app. I have tried this but prefer my 10" android tablet. This way I don't have to have my reading glasses on to see the phone and can see the layout in the distance. This might be something to consider of you have difficulties seeing and reading phone sized devices. Also if I receive a call I can answer and keep running the train.

Just some of my thoughts and I mirror Joe's sentiments. This is a good product, well thought out and works as intended. If you cant make it work I have to say the problem is somewhere else.

Engineer Joe, thanks for the post.  I agree.

In my experience, the MTH WiFi app works well.  It seems to be more responsive if the unit is set in the MTH mode and not running through the house wifi, but both modes work great.  The unit takes some time to boot up, so I found it is best to wait another minute after the Wifi light starts.  The app should marry then to the unit without problem.

I use it for my annual Christmas layout and when I took it out of the box this year, the power connector on the unit was disconnected from the internal board.  George (GGG) was able to repair it for me.  So if you pull the power cable out, be gentle with it.  Also the antenna housing nuts on mine were loose, so watch out for that.

My old Ipad 2 seems to work well with the app.  No issues there.  I don't mind picking up the remote, but app is great.

Definitely pulling for the Bills.  The head coach is from my neck of the woods and is friends with my brother.   When he left the Eagles he gave my brother all his old Eagles gear. My son now proudly wears his Eagles jacket and always has folks asking where he bought it.  He loves to say you can't buy this jacket, tells them the story and shows them the stitched in name tag.  He also learned to drive at his dad's driving school.  Would be great to see an Eagles-Bills Super Bowl.

FWIW - I really like the DCS app as well.

As my remote has been giving me difficulties, I've been using the App on my iphone lately.  I am getting used to it more.  It would be nice if it was a little more customizable.  I would trade the large speedometer for a vertical slider.  With the extra space, there could be programmable hot keys just like the S1-S5 keys on the remote.  Then you could put your favorite commands on the main screen and would not have to slide left or up to access commands like uncoupling or the Fwd Rev Whistle.

Nice videos Joe.  Impressive length of trains.

I have 2 tablets in use and although I like the larger screens, I prefer something easy to hold in one hand. I don't like the phone or tablet used outside where I just can't see it.

I had really hoped that some 3rd party might make a dedicated DCS app remote with some keys and buttons on it.

There's some work in DCC like this:

I think a desktop style or control stand would be cool. I like the one that's out there for DCC use right now.
