My son and I have been using an MTH DCS Commander to run a floor layout and it works great with a Rail King Blue Comment set, Rugged Rails. This set is only a couple of years old, but we also have a Rail King Daylight set from the 2002 catalog that has 2.O in it that will not respond to it at all.

The RK Daylight ran with my DCS system and it responds to the Z750 because when I performed the 1-whistle and 5-Bell reset to factory engine one I get the two toots that indicates a return to engine One address.

Everything works just great with the Z750, but the Commander is dead to it, though as stated above it talks to the Blue Comment.

I know the Daylight is 2.O because I used it many times with my DCS system and I doubt if it would of responded to the reset if the system was no longer working.

Could it be possible that the Daylight has a version of DCS that dose not recognize the Commander system? The directions talks about pre 1997 systems not working with it but I don't think any of them are DCS 2.0.
Or is there another reset I should be using?

I know that this topic should be on the DCS page but we have been talking so much about the Commander over the past week or two here I thought the problem might be fun to kick around.

Thank you for any input, even if your answer makes me feel like a dummy. Wink

When I got home from work this morning I thought to my self, self do you think Barry Broskowitz would have something to say about this in the DCS Companion? Well on page 196 he goes into the issue in a fair amount of debth.
In short on page 201 Barry says that for a PS2/PS3 engine to be fully reset to it's factory default it must be reset using the DCS TIU and DCS Remote .
The transformer reset will bring the engine to almost a full reset but the DCS address number as set by the remote remains.
You can also use the DCS Commander to reset an engine to factory one. This is not to be confused with the $40.00 DCS Remote Commander that we are talking about. "A PS2 or PS3 engine cannot be reset to it's factory default values usine the DCS Remote Commander".

So, I have to to put my Daylight on the DCS track and reset it to factory defaults per the inbstructions of part2, "Reset Engine" in the Companion.

So you are on the right track John. I'm going to try it tonight when I get up. I will post then and let all who is interested know how it works out.

Thank you Barry, now you are solving my problems before you even get up in the morning. Big Grin
If your are using the console DCS Commander 50-1028, 5 volt PS2.0 engines will not work with it; only 3 volt system engines will.

*DCS Commander works with all Proto-Sound 3.0 locomotives (including all M.T.H. HO locomotives) and with Proto-Sound 2.0 locomotives with onboard 3-volt system. Proto-Sound 2.0 three-volt systems can be identified by their square battery-charging jack on the locomotive chassis. See the operator's manual for the exact location of the charging jack.

If you're using the DCS Remote Commander 50-1033, then, as stated mutiple times above, you need to reset to factory default.
