Is here any chance that you're exceeding the maximum number of engines that the DCS Commander can store? If memory serves me correctly, it can only store total of 10 DCS (PS2/PSA3) engines.
What exactly is the error message that you're seeing?
What is the MTH product number for the engine?
From page 3 of the DCS Commander manual:
Use the engine menu to select and control up to 10 different DCS engines from
a single Commander - or switch back to DCC or analog DC operation with the
push of a button.
From page 31 of the DCS Commander manual:
Can't add a Proto-Sound® 2.0 or later engine
If “Er” is displayed it's possible there is another engine on the rails with the same
address. Ensure the engine you are adding is the only one on the rails
Check that your Proto-Sound 2.0 or later engine is on a powered piece of track or
not sitting on dead track section
The engine address you are trying to add may already exist in the DCS Commander. After you see the “Er” message the screen will display the current engine's address. You should be able to hit START UP and run the engine
No not a compatibility issue. Can that engine add to another DCS system? You do know PS-2 needs the positive to go to center rail pickup as they are polarity sensitive where PS-3 is not. Swap the wires leads at the CDR unit and test again. G
