I'm getting closer to setting up the MTH WIFI unit when I get my new iPhone. In preparation for this a few questions came up that I was hoping that those who have been through this can answer.

1. I have my MTH engines loaded into the MTH handheld units. Each engine has the same number in each of the handhelds.  When I add them into the iPhone, will they enter with the same numbers as in the handheld units?

2. Does it make any difference if I add a new engine to the iPhone before adding it to the handheld or vice versa?

3. Are there any problems if I am using my iPhone and others are running different engines at the same time with the handheld remotes?

Thanks,

Ed Kazarian

1 They should. If they don't, you edit the address with the I phone after you add them to keep them correct. So you should have a written list of the engines and the addresses they are in before you start adding.

2 only that an open slot in your I phone may not be open in your remote. Because your remote already has the engines, I would start with it to keep things straight.

3 no

When you use the home's WIFI, the system can get lost. Mine froze a couple of times. I think it started doing other things than running trains?

All I can say is that I have set it for the MTH WIFI from then on and haven't had that issue again. If I turn off the system before turning off a device, the device reverts to the house WIFI and if the system is restarted right away with the device on, it won't talk to the TIU. I get "TIU not found" or similar message.

Then I go to the device's settings and force it to go to MTH WIFI.

So power up the MTH WIFI box first, and/or just leave it powered on. It takes a few minutes to fully power up.

I guess I will come in from the other side 😀.  I had nothing  but problems (iPad constantly disconnected) and frustration using the MTH Wi-Fi for the first few weeks after installing the WIU.  Reconfigured the WIU to connect to my home router’s wireless network using a reserved IP address.  I connect my iPad to the WIU using my normal home wireless and haven’t had a single connectivity issue problem since.  Don’t have to keep swapping my iPad between wireless networks, or verifying I am on the correct network prior to starting the App and getting the dreaded “TIU Not Found” message.  And not to only be different about which network to use, I also am in the habit of powering my WIU on last, not first, and waiting a couple of minutes before starting the App.  This way it re-initializes with an already powered on TIU.

It may be that this is all in my head (like not walking under ladders or on cracks in sidewalks) but it has worked for me which is what counts for me.
