I intend to purchase a DCS system to run MTH locomotives. I also want to run Lionel engines made for TMCC. I know the DCS is hooked to the Legacy by a special cable. My question is do I have to purchase a complete Legacy system or is it possible to buy just the command base?  My second question is what other wiring will need to be done to make these work together. Is there a web site I can see how these need to be connected?

asesso,

If you want to run Lionel Legacy in all it's glory...you need to purchase the full Legacy system.  If you want to run Legacy locomotives and other TMCC locos via the DCS remote you can do that by purchasing the legacy command base OR the older TMCC command base.  Bottom line Legacy locos when run under DCS, even when using a Legacy command base, revert to TMCC mode.  Many forumites run both and are very happy.  Hope this helps.

My second question is what other wiring will need to be done to make these work together.

All that you need is MTH cable #50-1032.

Is there a web site I can see how these need to be connected?

Your best bet for information about all aspects of DCS, concluding everything you need to know about using DCS to operate TMCC and Legacy engines, is to obtain a copy of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition.

Everything you need to know about DCS and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
