Joe - no pressure, but you are the MAN :-)

Thanks for starting the other  thread. I tried rerouting your post last night. Best to keep them separate. I do believe it will work. I am almost ready to put the wifi away, until I join NJ-HiRailers later this month. But lets try this first.

The problem -

When I try to add engines I get a reading - request timed out, followed by No WIu/TIUs found if I just try again with the app. I can do this repeatedly and get the no TIU/WIU found error.

Note; I have never been successful using the WIU. It didn't simply fail after use.

If I cycle the power on the TIU/WIU and Z4000 using Z Track, I get the reading - request timed out, followed by no TIU/WIU

My gen 6  ipad with ios 13.2.3 is connected to the MTH WiFi (after failing at Home setup, I've restricted myself to MTH to start.)

My iphone 10 r ios 13.3 doesn't find the WIU/TIU, although when I first launched the newly downloaded app it found the WIU

I have 18- 22V on my Z4000 outputs. No difference.

I can find and control all 4 locos on the DCS remote

The power wifi and tiu lights are lit - sometimes the TIU light is blinking, sometimes its solid. aways fails to connect

The WIU FW is at 1.1 - confirmed through web interface

The TIU and handheld are at 6.1 - handheld confirmed at power on splash screen TIU in TIU version screen under TIU setup

I have reset the WIU using the button

I have done a factory reset on the TIU

I have reset the handheld

I have re re re downloaded the app

I am working my way through the DCS WiFi companion 2nd Edition

I am 12 feet from the WIU. The antenna is pointing up

A newly loaded app finds the WIU, but the request either times out, or the WIU/TIU aren't found

What am I missing

Try those steps first posted above.

The other thing I'd say is that IMO the remote keeps trying to run trains more than the app does. I've had it where the remote is struggling yet will run. The app says no TIU found. That's where I based my statement. The one time I just had my Lionel tank cars with sound on the rails, and another time it was a 3rd rail pass car. Each time it was enough to tip the system so that the app wouldn't work yet the remote did.

Obviously I need to add chokes to all my equipment. It was easier to just take them off the rails. The system worked right away. So when this happens I believe I would focus on getting track signal better. I think that the signal gives false hopes on good track signal. A few DCS releases back I posted this statement. My layouts reported tens even when I had issues. I believe MTH had done things to speed up responses and that's where the issue started. That's just a guess!

I've learned to take any possible offending equipment off the rails when issues arise. Sometimes I miss what the grandkids have put on the rails as the offender. They apply pressure to get things running and then things go wrong. I should have fixed any pieces by now.

I’ll try that - It Crowd rocks btw

Joe

I’ll also leave the Polar Express track powered down and try. I guess this means I’ll be powering the PE on a separate transformer.... It was convenient to use a variable TIU channel. Since Lion Chief isn’t track based signal, that’s weird. If WiFi means getting rid of cars with features,.... can you share the fix?

Thanks

Marty

Peter and Joe - thank you

Peter- good to know about delaying the WIU. That didn’t fix my issue, but it’s on the list of behaviors for when I get going

Joe - from your messages, it could be interference from anywhere. The powered outlets, the wall wart  from a light up train station, my volt meter car, an MTH caboose, with an operating Santa Claus (grrrr, it’s on the list of things I want to activate on the DCS layout), the PE that I left powered down this afternoon (TZV on that loop).
I’ll separate it out after we do some entertaining, this weekend. But, I can’t tear into it now. I’ll post success or new questions when I get there.
thanks again

Marty
