CJ,
You need to download a USB driver to use the Rev. L with a USB cable. You can get the driver from MTH by clicking on the following link:
http://www.mthtrains.com/news/013
and then following the instructions to download the driver software.
CJ,
Make sure that you installed the driver after downloading it. Also, make sure that you are using a stereo 1/8" jumper between the ProtoDispatch and ProtoCast ports of the TIU, and follow the on-screen prompts exactly.
I just purchased a 1/8 sterio jumper at radio shack i installed it as you said. and it still can not find a tiu but with the jumper installed the engine playes crew chatter when i apply power to fixed in 1
CJ,
Be sure to plug-in the jumper before powering the TIU.
if i plug in the jumper before powering up the engine plays crew chatter and sounds. If i plug in after giving power the engine is quiet. regardless it still can't find the tiu. I am doing what it askes me to do. i also disabled my antivirus and firewall.
I uninstalled the loader program and redownloaded it and installed it. I keep getting the same message it cannot find the tiu.

You never said exactly what it is that you're attempting to do. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you're attempting a TIU software upgrade, however, now I'm not sure.
What is it that you're attempting to do, and what is the purpose of the engine on the tracks?
CJ,
To move sound files, you do not use the stereo jumper.
Try using the aux power port to power only the TIU rather than the Input port This is what I had to do for the TIU to be found by the DCS Remote any other way and I had no variable ports.
I power the TIU with the aux power whenever I'm doing an upgrade of either the remote or the TIU. For engines, I just use track power into fixed #1.
