I downloaded DCS loader 2.3.4 a few days ago but it took a while to get the driver for the USB/serial that works on my ancient (8 year old) PC.  I read a post here from 2012 which referred to an MTH news article / driver dated 12/20/2010 for the rev L USB/serial driver, but the link to the driver on the MTH website appears to be out of date.  The only other USB driver download I see on the MTH site is for window 7 and 8.  Eventually, I just let the new hardware wizard install a driver.

I initially hooked up a 5 foot USB cable with a 10 foot USB extension cable, but when backing up the remote, the process stalled.  Retry didn’t work so I removed the TIU from the layout and used only the 5 foot cable.  Backup with the 5 foot cable worked fine.  I’m wondering if using a long cable / extension cable is a common problem for remote backup/restore or if I gave up too easily.

I did this a while back and I think I ended up using a USB cable with extension that was at least 10'-15' long and it worked here. Fortunately I have a Rev L TIU and finally found the right USB cable and extension. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I started out with a USB to serial adapter because I couldn't find the correct USB cables. I was completely un-successful with the USB to serial cable, never did get that to work. I first thought it was a driver problem however, the USB to serial cable works fine with my Legacy system. Some of these computer things are just finicky and temperamental, I guess? Similar to some of our trains every now and then...
