DCS Newbie question

Hello, I'm fairly new to the DCS system, and my old layout used three Z1000 bricks. My question is this: Can I still update my DCS system via computer with the Z1000's? I have heard that I need a Z4000. I don't know which version I am currently running, as the layout is currently being rebuilt.
