Bob,
I just looked and saw that the E-mail address that I responded to (that your E-mail came from) is different from the one in your profile.
I ended up having Staples drill for a spiral binder on mine. It is really nice to lay the book open and flat.
Great idea TMack to have Staples do that. Never thought of that as an option. There are several train repair books as well as Barry's book that I would like to have this done with.
Do you mind sharing what it cost to have Staples do this?

I had my secretary do that a couple of months ago
makes life easier.
Gents,
Before the 2nd edition the book was only available as an eBook. However, I had OfficeMax print about 6 double-soided, B&W copies and had them spiral bound. I included a clear vinyl cover and a solid door rear cover, a card stock color title page and a CD holder, as well.
At a volume of 6 copies, it cost approx. $18 a B&W copy for the 168-page 1st edition. A color copy would have been approx. $50-60 each.
The 2nd edition is about 25% longer (215 pages) and would cost 20% more.
If you want a hard, color copy it's more economical to simply purchase the soft cover version of the book. You could print a color copy yourself, however, it would still cost quite a bit in paper and ink.
It was only 5 or 6 dollars For the binding. The book is 200+ pages so the b&w Printing is the going rate at any copy store Or you could print it your self if you have access to a laser printer.
When I printed my e-book at Staples in black and white cheap and before they bound it I took it home and printed off the few pages on my regular color printer that I thought would be useful that had the color images on them did not take to long.
Then I replaced the B&W pages with color then took it back to Staples to ring bind it works great as mentioned being able to lay it out flat when working in the train room and needing a reference great book Barry! Been very useful.
For me, I downloaded the e-book on my iPad which makes it so convenient to carry over
to the "Studio" where my layout resides.
I do like the option of "bookmarking" parts of your book for quick reference.
The other thing is...I lent out my hard copy of 2nd edition and have yet to get it returned. If it's on e-book, it's easier to deny requests to lend !!
Rufus,
I like the hard copy in the staples set up, I had notes and everything in it, the darn thing seems to have walked off however. If you have a wife like mine who keeps moving things, cleaning up she calls it, you do not have to worry about lending stuff out, things she is not interested in seem to disappear into the great abyss. I have a really nice Tin Plate Light House lost in the abyss also. You have a better chance of getting your loaned hard copy back than I have of finding mine in my own home.
Good luck to ya buddy. Now if Barry would sell his Book in this format I would purchase another one, in the new format, no matter the cost, it would still be worth it to me even at double what I payed for the original, course I would probably have to hide the darn thing every night, so it would not disappear into the abyss, for a 2nd time.

So... If you buy the hard copy, do you have access to the e-book copy?
So... If you buy the hard copy, do you have access to the e-book copy?
Nope, you have to buy that separately.
IMO the E-Book is the deal. I know in the past when it was revised, I believe the revision was free and downloadable. I'm sure Barry will correct me if I am mistaken. The hard copy, seems you'd be out of luck.
Thanks guys!

Any revisions to the current copy of the eBook are free. However, an entirely new edition eBook would not be a free revision for 2nd edition owners,
Still reasonable and Still the BEST guide to operating DCS ever.
I have both versions and don't regret it for a minute.
Stuck it on the old laptop that lives in the train room and all is well.
Keep up the good work Barry !
The book has certainly saved me a lot of aggravation. Along with Barry it has been a great help for me getting into DCS.
