when using this in passive mode does the green LED light up? I know I just need to wire the terminals to the correct rails but didn't get the green led. I suspect it's just for input voltage but figure I'd ask.

Yes the green led will light up thats how i do mine in passive mode. Just hook the wires up to the reciever from track center rail and outside rail and hook your transformer up to your terminals not to the reciever then turn power up the on the transformer and the green LED will light up.
