I am new to your organization but have found the commentary invaluable since building the layout a few years back.  We are using super O and as a result I am more active on Mike's blog.  Great group also.  video of our modest layout  Since this video we added a fused ZW transformer which has transformed how the trans run vs z 750 and 1000.   Run smoother and slower if wished.

Last year a used DCS unit was purchased and upon trying to upgrade the software it could not be accomplished.  Upon returning to FL this winter work continued on the control panel which was finished by running Fixed via TIU and variable through a Fused ZW.  The DCS unit's red light is on, that is the good news.

  • The bad news is the handheld does not recognize the DCS.
  • The remote did not recognize a PS2 trolley on the track.
  • The new WIFI unit will not connect to the home network even though the system says they are on the same network.
  • The lights blinking on the WIFI unit indicate it needs an upgrade but could not accomplish as my new Samsung S21 will not connect.  Bottom red blinking and the blue light was on and blinked like it was getting data.

Our local MTH dealer is not doing repairs for lack of parts.  Great folks and wonderful resource but as I said to Bill I would rather an expert make the call on this one.  Not an electronics repair guy, being a bean counter of sorts.

After all that my request / question is -  if we have MTH DCS repair folks willing to assist in my quest on this blog please contact me at armand.lucarelli@gmail.com or 508 451 7500 (cell).

Bary or anyone else with similar issues and solutions I am all ears.

Happy New Year and please try and stay safe.  Crazy Crazy

When you power up the TIU, note the number of times the red light blinks (1-5) before it stays steady. The number of blinks is the ID# of the TIU. It must match the ID# of the TIU in the remote.

In the remote, go to MENU, SYSTEM, TIU SETUP, ADD TIU. You should see a list of TIU's not in the remote. If the TIU ID# of your TIU (based on the number of blinks you observed) is not on the list, that means it is already in the remote and the problem lies elsewhere (such as a loose transceiver board).

If the TIU ID# of your TIU is on the list of displayed TIU's, then scroll to it and press the thumbwheel to add it to the remote. Power everything down and then restart everything and the remote should now recognize the TIU. Press the READ key to see if it does.

Well, at least the remote is now communicating with the TIU or at least match up.

1. Is the TIU getting power through Fixed 1 or the Aux port ?

2. Are the batteries in the remote fresh ?

3. Connect a standard telephone handset cable from the remote's programming port to the TIU's remote input port and see if that works. By using the telephone cable to connect to the TIU you are making a direct connection from the remote to TIU and by-passing any potential RF range issues.

It appears the remote and tiu not communicating.  Going to get a phone cable today to see if rhey connect or out of range continues.

John, i have read many of your posts.  Are you Hennings trains?

The phone cable is a logical step, make sure it's the 4-wire one.

I'm not Henning's Trains, I just do repairs for them and they sell my electronic product line.

only thing I would recommend is buying the dcs companion off of Amazon.com they have the 3rd edition does an absolute must for dcs types of problems, Great Book Barry Broskowitz Wrote!

Before trying to add an engine, use the remote menu and select tiu and scroll to tiu version and press the button.  See if the remote can talk to tiu and display the remote software version.  If it does the remote and tiu can talk.  If it talks to the tiu then the issue is probably the tiu not communicating with the engine.  TIU can be test and repaired most of the time.  G
