i am trying to upgrade my Rev L TIU and remote from 4.x to 6.1. Computer is a Win10 home box which I have used successfully to download sound files. Instructions for upgrading to 6.1 says to jumper the two protocast mini phone jacks. When they are jumpered the loader cannot find the serial port. With the jumper is removed it finds the TIU no problem using any type of USB to USB or USB to 9 pin adapter.

What is the consequence of trying to load the update with the protocast jacks disconnected? Is there some sort of work around for this. My Win 7 box is long gone. Did I say I hate Win 10?

Just a followup. I was finally able to do the 6.1 install. Seem the biggest culprit was the Win10 OS. After failing on my Win10 notebook PC, I tried my newer iMac with Boot Camp running Win10 Pro. Same results. Would not see the TIU when the protocast jacks were jumpered.

Last attempt was my 15 year old iMac running Parallels and Win XP. I had to do a fresh install of Ver5 Loader plus the 6.1 files. Did not work with the USB A to USB B cable but did work with a USB to 9 pin serial adapter and Fixed 1 in powered.

Wish MTH had done a Mac OS version but I doubt that will happen now.
Its all good and the WIU works now. I am not a smart phone/tablet guy but can see this actually might be pretty cool. If my handhelds bite the dust I could run trains with a tablet.

Odd, I upgrade TIU's regularly here with Windows 10 using both USB and the serial ports, depending on the age of the TIU.

I did have an issue when Microsoft pushed out a Win 10 upgrade sometime early last year, for a few months the USB upgrades no longer worked, but then magically they started working with the USB port again, obviously another update fixed whatever they broke.
