DCS upgrade

IMO, if you have a version earlier than 4.0, you should consider upgrading. The current version is 4.2.

It is pretty easy to do following the loader instructions.

The DCS Companion gives a good description of how to do it.

Thanks.  Just checked - I have ver 4.0.  So I'm hoping that there are no major functionality add ons from 4.0 to the current version.  Any ideas?

Version 4.0 was a pretty major upgrade, and contains most of the current functionality. If I was you I would still consider upgrading to 4.2.

You will not lose any engines or any other programming in your handheld.

If I remember correctly, versions 4.0 and 4.02 had some bugs in them when trying to add engines.  Version 4.1 fixed those bugs.  Version 4.2 was to address the new memory configurations of the P3 boards, but was backward compatible with P2 boards.  I would recommend upgrading to 4.2.

Your PS3 engine should operate in either Conventional or DCS Mode. You may want to figure out which outside rail and orientation it is in to match your track wires before running it.

Yes, however, there's a bug in 4.0 (fixed in 4.1/4.2) that may prevent you from adding any PS2 or PS3 engines unless you tether the TIU while attempting to add them.

Thanks Barry. I have not come across that bug when adding my PS2 engines.  Anyway, it looks like an upgrade is in order.

As I posted above, yes, it will.

PS3 engines look just like PS2 engines to all releases of DCS.
