I am trying to venture into Wi-Fi. Upgraded my old TIU to version 6.0 and purchased a serial to Ucb connector and the new WI_FI unit. I got the source for purchasing the connector from a previous post ( I believe Digi-Key). I am getting no TIU found on my phone. I suspect the cable since the original cable was not available and the seller directed me to another source. What are the specs for the cable ( serial input for TIU from UCB WI-FI ) and what is a good source? Is there anything I could have overlooked?

Is the TIU light blinking on the WIU or does it go steady shortly after powering everything on?
I have a few of the USB to Serial adapters that do NOT work with the WIU. These were mostly generic no name branded devices. MTH is a good source for the right part, the little extra you'll pay is worth the frustration free setup.
Art,
MTH doesn't sell the cable to connect the TIU to the WIU, although the cable to connect a Rev. L TIU's USB port to the WIU is included with the WIU.
If you're concerned that you may have a bad cable, The DCS WiFi Companion 1st Edition tells you what you need on page 41:
- USB cable (for Rev. L TIU), male USB-B (TIU end) to male USB-A (WiFi Interface Unit end); or
- USB to Serial cable (for all other TIUs). If using a USB to Serial cable and the TIU is already connected to a Lionel command base, then a serial "Y" cable (1 male end, 2 female ends) will also be required.
Make surer that your WIU has the latest, version 1.1, firmware.

Thanks for the replies. I have the older version with the serial port. I just purchased the WI-FI recently ( MAY) so I hope it is the correct version and I am using the free app. ( the included cable will not work since it is USB to USB.) . I will check the version. All lights are steady and correct lights are on. Tiu works fine with remote but indicate no TIU with phone. I suspect I have wrong cable . What I need is a source for the Y version from someone who has purchased.

- What smart device are you using to run the app?
- How is the WIU setup, in MTH mode or in Home mode?
- If in MTH mode, did you connect the smart device to the MTH network? If in Home mode did you connect the smart devices to your home network?
- Did you tap Refresh on the Engine Control Screen after waiting auntil a minute or two after the lights came on steady?
What I need is a source for the Y version from someone who has purchased.
A serial Y cable is available form Amazon at this link.
I am using a Galaxy 5 android. Unit is set up in the MTH mode I don't think it is in range of home. How do I set this up for MTH find this on my galaxy device? That was not clear with instructions. thought it was blue tooth. Will try again.

That's most likely your problem.
Go to settings, WiFi and look in your list of networks. Select the one with MTH in the name. The password is mthdcs all in lower case.
Got it working. that was the problem. Found the code. and both tablet and phone work. Now I have to order splitter and upgraded system. Thanks for the help. It is easy when you know how.
Art,
