Hello Forum Members,
I need help. A thank you to GREGR for responding to my earlier posting about this.
I have a layout that has DCS and Legacy control, and have operated it using the DCS and Legacy Remotes, with everything working pretty well. Recently, I decided to install the DCS WIFI and use the DCS WIFI to control all engines, both DCS and Legacy. Everything is hooked up per Barry's book. The WIFI reads and I can control the MTH DCS engines, but it is not reading the Legacy engines. The WIFI shows DCS engines in either the active or inactive list. Lionel engines are not listed at all and the WIFI does not know they are there.
I have an older Rev. L TIU with an RS232 9 pin port. It does not have a USB port. I attached a RS232 Y cable to the TIU, with one side of the Y (female) attached to a (male) RS232 to USB cable. The USB is attached to the DCS WIFI. The WIFI works great for the DCS engines.
The other side of the RS232 Y cable is for the Lionel Legacy side. It is attached to a MTH 50-1032 (each end is a male RS 232 9 pin connection) cable, which is attached to a Lionel 6-81326 SER2 module at its RS 232 9 pin female port. I then attached a Lionel 6-81499 cable to the SER2 and the Legacy Base. The LCS PDI end of the 6-81499 is attached to the SER2 at the PDI connection that is on the bottom left of the SER2 (I am not sure if this is correct. There are two connection points but the one on the left seems to be the logical one.) The RS232 9 Pin end of the 6-81499 is attached to the Legacy base. THe power supply of the 6-81499 cable is plugged in and it has power.
I think this wiring is the correct way and what is recommend by MTH, Lionel, and Barry in his book. The WIFI signal is good. I am running current versions of DCS and Lionel software. I have power to everything. I have checked and rechecked everything, but the WIFI does not read Legacy engines. I am using the WIFI Premium App. I have tried removing all engines from the layout except a single Legacy engine. Still no recognition by the WIFI. I assume the WIFI should see a Legacy engine on the powered track and list it in the inactive list. I have done something wrong but cannot figure out what.
Any suggestions? All help will be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.
