My Lionel Amtrak HHP stopped working so I took it to Nassau Hobby. Chris called back and said that it couldn't be fixed because Lionel no longer made the part. That thing cost $200 and change so I figured I would get some use out of it,but when they no longer make the part that is just stupid. Buying Williams from now on.

What part are you referring to?

Most engines have D.C. can motors installed in them, so you can replace the circuit board with a 6 amp 50 volt bridge rectifier from Radio Shack for about $7.00. That is what I did with two of my Williams engines, however the only drawback is that you have one direction only.

Others may mention how to install a reverse set-up with the bridge rectifier but I don't know how to do that.

Lee F.

two quick fixes.

(just a side note, I am NOT

an electronics wiz).

1) pull all electronics OUT of your engine,

buy a rectifier from radio shack and install.

down side is that it goes one direction ONLY.

Ive done this before and it works well.

2) ttender.com (Jeff Kane) sells an electronics

reversing unit that you can install to replace

electronics in your loco. havent tryed this.

I checked the parts website, it looks like the control board for both versions are not available anymore. Bummer. If your version is the railsound version and not the trainsound version in the Amtrak set, you might contact Ken at the Electric RR.company, it was their circuit board and might possibly be able to repair it.

You might also contact forum member GGG, he seems to be able to repair some circuit boards on a component level. You stated it costs 200.00, so it sounds like the Trainsound version, maybe a substitute board could be installed. Wouldn't hurt to give Mike Reagan a call.

It's the trainsound version with TMCC. If Chris says it can't be fixed and they fixed a lot of my stuff then I'll have the old motor taken out and a basic one put in. They have a guy that can do that. Thanks for the help.
