"dead spots" in track

Thanks to everyone for their comments/suggestions re track issues. I've got enough information to check everything out before installing switches and attaching track to foam permanently.

Suggestion: if you do any streaming on YouTube, please check out "Jersey Mike's" (no relation) Amtrak cab rides. My wife and I particularly enjoy "Pittsburgh to Connelsville" and "Connelsville to Cumberland." Beautiful scenery, interesting small towns along the way, and great train action. We fire up the wood stove and drink coffee a couple of days a week while watching these videos. Great way to start the day.
