DEPT 56 CERAMIC BUILDINGS WITH MIXED TRADITIONAL BUILDINGS

You be far from the first. Seperation will help avoid style and size clashes.

I'd try warm water for snow removal.  Sanding and or re painting too. Craft acrlics so you can wash it away if not happy.

I've ground off detail from glass, ceramic, clay and plastic with Dremel tools.  Wreaths included. 

I stick with "Summer  Bay" from Dept 56 and the snow free Lemax and K-Line versions.

After Christmas many show up on auction sites and Craigslist cheap.

Stay away from the Dept 56 type people models, they are grossly over-sized, and would never fit thought the doorways.

Thanks TOTRAINYARD, I looked up summer Bay but think you meant Seasons Bay These buildings are really nice I like them a lot. Can you tell me if they are the same size as O scale, larger or smaller?

Yes, I believe he meant Seasons Bay. Wish I had known about that line before stocking up on the traditional Dept 56 structures. The snow gets old. Dicken's Village structures sometimes come without the snow, but not always.

This is probably more whimsical than you're looking for. I combined Dept. 56 structures with regular O-scale/gauge items and was very happy with the results. I never tried removing the snow but did paint over it in a couple of cases--but I found using ground cover on the snowy bases looks better than paint. Overall, I just learned to live with snow on roofs. 1st & 2nd pictures are of old layout (divorce necessitated taking down). 3rd picture is of current layout, small scene with Dept. 56 church in background.
