Hi,
i am new to the forum, even though I have been reading it for years.
My problem is with a Lionel Lionmaster WM Challenger, 6-82698. While running trains I had an accident. The Challenger was parked on a siding and the engine was shut down. Now the siding is still powered. As I was running a passenger train on the main line, the Challenger silently crept out to the main line striking a passenger car causing a derailment. This accident occurred at very low speed. I shut all power off to the entire layout, then removed the involved engine and cars from the track. They were repositioned as normal. However, upon powering up the track it immediately shorted out.
I removed the Challenger and tender and re powered the track. No short and all other trains ran perfectly. Whenever the Challenger and tender were on the track the track would short out. With just the Challenger returned to the track, no short. When just the tender was positioned on the track, immediate short. Therefore through this process it is the tender that is causing the short. Detailed inspection of the tender fails to reveal any cause for the short.
Any help greatly appreciated.
