This map will show Mackinaw City, in 1914. New York Central System.

This is before it became the Detroit and Mackinac Raiway, in Michigan. This is a lumber area and some of the lumber from the Upper Peninsula oh Michigan came to Mackinaw City on Railroad Ferry Boats.

The reason I am showing this railroad map is because I sometimes sign out by saying,

“Cheers from The Detroit and Mackinac Railway”

Now you know, “Pass it On”

Logging or tourism?

Logging, salt, foundry sand, and fruit, but mainly logging.

Trainroomgary, Since you seem to be versed in the D&M Railway what do you think of Lionel's offering of an Alco C420 in bicentennial colors in their 2019 catalog? Any idea why they would produce this? I don't believe D&M even owned a C420.

Steve

Hi Steve: Yes I did pre-order the Lionel D&M in the bicentennial colors.

D&M Locomotive

I believe this is the first time that Lionel offered a D&M locomotive and I am not sure if this is historically correct.  I also have MTH's D T & I locomotive in bicentennial colors.

Take care: Gary

Gary, thanks for the response and the info that this is Lionel's first D&M loco.

Lucas Gudinov, thank you for the real photo. I've looked for info on the D&M but couldn't find much.

I'm no rivet counter by any stretch of the imagination. The Lionel catalog image looks perfect to me. The on-line dealers show these arriving at the end of this month and I definitely will be getting one.

The latest issue of the "Keystone" had a very complete history of the trains that served the northern Michigan resorts, the eventual merger of these roads into the PRR, and concluding with the "Northern Arrow" that went to Mackinaw until 1961.  While not directly related to the topic it was interesting history for anyone interested in Michigan railroading.
