Legacy engines have amazing sound quality and effects.  But I have found a couple of issues that detract from the sound quality and I would like help figuring out what the cause(s) are.  I have engines that sound absolutely perfect across all volume levels regardless of what sound effect the engine is making.  I have a couple engines that have the problems below.  No engine has both issues.

1. When power is applied to track a constant low humming can be heard coming from the speakers in the tender regardless of sound volume.  The humming persists as the engine plays sound effects.

2. With the volume pot above halfway the speakers crackle.  The crackling can be heard when the whistle blows or when the intensity of the sound intensifies such as when labor efx is increased.

thanks for your feedback

I also have your issue 1 on certain engines - as it happens two of the early Vision Line models, one steamer and one diesel. Other people have reported the same thing about VL and Legacy models but not everyone has the buzzing problem. It does not seem to be present in more recently issued models or in my VL GE Evo.

I have not seen any explanation on this forum of what the cause of the problem is and I hope someone has a clue. I was just about to ask Lionel for an RA for the steamer because the buzzing is so bad there's no way you can leave the engine idle on a powered siding as it makes a very distracting racket.
