I have noticed that Lionel O Gauge tin track O72 curves are measured as diameter from center rail To center rail.

O42 also appear to be from center rail.

O31 seems to be from the outer tie, with only 29 inches from center rails.

anyone now how O54 is measured?

I think from O42 and up it's measured from the center.

It is my understanding that it was all outside rail or "circle of" a specific diameter until 072 was released. yes, 031 is weird as it doesn't quite get to 31" unless you to go to the tie edge.

Notice that the track was described by the length. That would be the line segment from the end of the center rail to the opposite end of the center rail.

Moonman, neat old page!

Interesting that they show 31 and 74 inches in the diagram, the outer diameters.

Just looking at that hacksaw makes me appreciate my Dremel with cutoff wheels all over again

Randy I was guessing that. I will be picking up an O54 circle soon.
