I'm looking for an Baldwin S12 model. I'm having trouble locating one in O. Did any of the manufacturers ever make one? What would be a close substitute? VO1000?
The VO-1000 looks very similar. Mth produced a number of varieties with different details, such as the number of exhaust stacks. They are minor detail differences, but the VO may be an option, especially if you are handy doing detail modifications.

What railroad are you interested in?
Tom
Thanks Tom... That's a nice looking model. My Son graduated HS this year and got a Job with the SMS Rail Lines. I would like to paint up and decal an engine for him as a gift.
The VO 1000 with is rounded grill will be tough to straighten out to s flat nose as on the S12. The Car works DID do a DS4-4-1000 switcher with a flat nose which could be a starting point-if you can find it then come up with Weaver 3 rail wheels and the 3 rail shaft drive with roller pick ups. Then find the body differences between the DS4-4-1000 and the S12.
American Flyer and S Helper service? Has the S scale S12.
In addition to the very different front (angled vs flat), also be aware that the VO1000 is over 2' feet longer than the S-12/DS4-4-1000's. Once you "see" that difference, you'll never be content making a VO1000 stand-in for an S-12.
