die cast repaint

what i’m looking for is advise to re paint a lionel post war die cast steamer. from what i’ve read so far is that lionel did not use a primer coat prior to painting can that still be done and what paint type is recommended

I recommend a semi-gloss black rattlecan finish. I also recommend stripping the shell to bare metal and primering, based on my past experience. Good luck, and keep us posted!
