are mth 20 and scale 30 diesels powered by the same motors. i'm considering running some scale 30 diesels behind a premier based primarily on the price

I presume you mean 20- Premier and 30- Rail King Scale. The answer us yes, they use the same motors. The also have the same 1 throttle step = 1 SMPH speed control and run in consist together very nicely. I have premier and Rail King scale locomotives that I run together regularly.
