I recently started using my ZW-L in command mode so that I could run conventional trains on one loop and Command engines on another. I've attached my layout track diagram. What I've noticed is that when I run a conventional engine on the inner loop and hit the direction button on my CAB-2, it cuts the power completely and I must use the throttle wheel to restore power. (Previously I was controlling the inner loop through a TPC400 and I had the same issue.) This does not happen if I use the Direction button on the ZW. I can use the CAB-2 direction button on my outer loop and it reacts correctly. The Direction button cuts/restores power as it should. I removed the conventional engine from the inner loop but that made no difference.  The loops are separated at the inside switches. the spurs are separate blocks as well controlled by a BPC2.  I'm stumped.

Dave,

Thanks for your question. It caused me to go back and relook the manual section regarding assigning ID's.  I did assign Track 1 to the ZW but I failed to take the next step and assign the "device type".  (pg. 20) Once I did that, everything seems to be working perfectly. The CAB-2 Direction Whistle and Bell now work perfectly on my conventional engines. Again, thanks!  As so often happens with me, my problems are often 'user error.'

Merry Christmas!
