Was in the basement today pulling wire again on the layout... Got the accessory bus wired in and pulled out the Gantry Crane. Was fun watching my son Jack discover how to operate it. He was a master in no time.

Jack's having fun! BTW, there is a variation of the crane that has a clamshell bucket, allowing you to pick up coal, M&Ms, etc.
The gantry crane is a very interactive accessory! And always a favorite for all ages!

We have both the clamshell and magnetic versions and people of all ages love to use them. They are not difficult to learn, have great action, and are fairly reliable.

Very cool! I always wanted one and finally found a 282R at a decent price a couple months ago. A little louder than expected, but as my father says, that's part of the experience of postwar Lionel trains I still don't have a layout set up, but when I got that in the mail, I must have spent an hour putting it through it's paces with some cars I quickly dug out of storage.
