I have made a few display cases years back for my HO collection with glass shelves and glass sliding doors. I too used a mirror to the back of the cabinet to ad more viewing of the engines inside. Now I would like to try a large wall mounted shelving unit about 67" wide and 6 shelves high for my O scale. I need it to be dust free and able to support the heavy O scale engines Being over 5 feet wide. I guess I need to support in the middle of the span to eliminate any sway but I want to keep the shelving thin as not to be the main focus of the unit. Have any suggestions on a material or product that may fill the thiness I desire and eliminate the sway. Shown is a display I made over a decade ago but I just can't be making a bunch of these to display

Bevel relieve the lower front edge of each shelf if wood to reduce prominence and paint the beveled surface flat black.
Consider using commercial tempered glass shelves held up with slotted chromed brackets and arms. Cut the mirrors to fit between the shrome mounting strips.
I still like these the best.
But because there is no distributor in North America they go from being very expensive to crazy expensive.
Check this Trackside Display link to see if there's something that will do for you.
I have a number of their display cases--various scales--and am very satisfied with them.
