Disposing of Broken Trains in Bulk

This is going to be one of the weirder subjects posted here in a while. I am Dave, and I am the General Manager at Roads and Rails Museum in Frederick MD. After 5 years of operation we now have a pile of un-fixed trains that I need to get rid of. Research on eBay hasn't pointed to a definite price point. I don't have the time to jerry-rig them to work like I used to, and I don't really want to send them out for repair. If I can get rid of 10 broken engines and get 1 new one (conventional control) I would be very happy. Any suggestions?

PS this forum has proved essential in building this museum, thanks for all the tips over the years.

There is a For Sale or Trade forum section - maybe posting up pictures of the 10 will attract a decent trade for you?

Post them here on OGR's classifieds. A lot of us like tinkering and have a need for spare parts. Put a reasonable price on them yet give yourself room to negotiate. Either bundle them or flog them individually.

My suggestion would be a listing on Craiglist. The killer with trying to get rid of the trains either here or ebay would be the postage charges. Try a posting on Frederick Craigslist, Baltimore Craigslist, and Washington DC Craiglist. I have used our local Craiglist to sell some heavier train sets in the past.

Still need to come by and see the display one of these days.

Sell them here on the forum, give the members a shot. lots of members in the general area. Then use Craigs List if you don't move them. Exactly what and how many clunkers do yu have ?/ Want a trade for a runner or two???

Are the problems electrical, mechanical, or cosmetic?

I've been gutting the electronics from engines and installing battery-operated, remote-control systems.

There's always a work-around!
