Trying to figure out why the music and sounds are very distorted like you are over driving the sound. I have manually turned the volume down almost all the way and it still is coming out garbled. This is the coors light train by the way. I do not have another mth engine to try. My tmcc engines sound just fine. Could it be a bad speaker. This is a used set but only has about 8 miles on the odo. The battery is ok. I am new to dcs.

Thanks

Worth inspecting the speaker.  While PS-2 5V speakers (16ohms) made by star were the ones that would deteriorate and have metal flaking, I have seen an occasional PS-2 3V 4 ohm speaker made by star do the same thing.   Also seen speakers that have been punctured or gathered lots of metal part on the layout.

Otherwise doing the factory reset Gregg stated.   G

Okay. Man that is a strong magnet. The speakers are the same so i swapped them out. One thing i did notice as i was swapping them out was the hold down clamps were loose because of the screws being too long. Shorter screws and a speaker from the dead Coors light train and bammm. It has proper sound now. I did swap screws first and that didn't fix the problem. Glad it is running after taking it apart a few times. Now onto trouble shooting two of the cars.

Thanks for everyone's help. It is greatly appreciated. Love this forum for all the advice and knowledge.

GGG. Thanks for the suggestion. I will be ordering a 2 new speakers then. There is still a hint of distortion but it sounds 100% better than the original. As for the other engine I think it is going to need some major overhaul. I dont see anything wrong but it is dead. When i hit the read button after deleting the working engine, it says no engines found. When my friend had the trains, this one hit the floor pretty hard. I have unplugged everything and plugged it back in. I will dig into it further after the holidays. For now I am enjoying a new train around the ceiling.

That's because you're misunderstanding what the READ command actually does. The READ command only looks for engines that have already been added, and are in, the DCS Remote.

If it finds one on a powered track, it assigns it to the Active Engine List.

If one in the remote isn't found, it relegates it to the Inactive Engine List. The READ command does not add engines to the DCS Remote. For that, you must use the Add Engine menu command.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase  from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

okay took the non running one back apart. measured the voltage across the battery. 2.1v  I tried to add the engine again and it is still coming back saying no engine found. Mr. John I guess I have two engines for you lol. The only thing I can think of is the coupler was broken off when it hit the floor. maybe it shorted inside or the main board got damaged during the hit.
